Kumarakom is a village on Vembanad Lake in the backwaters of Kerala, South India. It is crisscrossed by canals where houseboats sail on the water. The Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary is home to many species, including cuckoos and storks. The nearby Bay Island Driftwood Museum displays wood carvings. Patiramanal Island in the lake is a paradise for rare migratory birds. The old Tazatangadi Mosque is to the east of Kumarakom.
